Mauritius ranks as the happiest country in Africa

Statistical analysis was used to determine the happiest countries by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. The report ranks 146 countries according to their overall well-being, from the happiest to the most unhappy.

Professor Christopher Barrington-Leigh of McGill University in Quebec also contributed to the report as a researcher, saying in a statement that the World Happiness Report is changing the conversation about progress and well-being. He also said the report outlines how people in these countries feel about their quality of life.

In the 10th edition of the report, Mauritius is the happiest country in Africa, with a perfect score of 6,071. Unfortunately,  the  2021 pandemic has retreated Mauritius from a High-Income to an Upper-Middle-Income country.

The most unfortunate country in this region is Zimbabwe, because of poverty. According to statistics, by 2021, about 6.1 million people lived below the international poverty line.

Here are the top 10 countries in the African Region and their score:

  • Mauritius – 6.071
  • Libya – 5.330
  • Ivory Coast – 5.235
  • South Africa – 5.194
  • Gambia – 5.164
  • Algeria – 5.122
  • Liberia – 5.122
  • Congo – 5.075
  • Morocco – 5.060
  • Mozambique – 5.048

Particular Case
The Regulatory Sandbox License (RSL) allows an investor to undertake a commercial activity for which there is no legal structure or suitable regulations under Mauritius' existing legislation. The RSL will be provided by the Economic Development Board to qualifying firms that want to invest in innovative projects for a fixed amount of time under a set of agreed upon terms and conditions.

Eligibility
Any investor with an innovative concept for which there is no legal framework or sufficient measures to cover its materialization can submit a full application for the issuance of an RSL. The applicant must be able to demonstrate the creative character of the project on a local, regional or global scale.
