The Union of Tour Operators company (SETO) has recommended that travel to Mauritius, which is now classified as “Scarlet Red” following the emergence of the new Omicron variant of Covid-19, be suspended until December 15, 2021.

The Union of Tour Operators company (SETO)

Following the announcement of the French government concerning the tightening of travel restrictions to Mauritius as well as to nine southern African countries, the tour operators’ union has updated the following recommendations:

  • Recommendation concerning the suspension of all departures until Wednesday, December 15, 2021 inclusive “to Port-Louis-SSR airport (served by the airlines Air France, Air Mauritius and Corsair) but also to South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Tour operators can offer assets to affected clients, but they “have the right to refuse them,” in which case “the Tourism Code applies,” the union said.

  • SETO recommends to its members to inform customers already in the ten destinations concerned “of the new rules applicable to returns to France.

Remember that according to the new travel restrictions, valid from December 4, 2021 and which have yet to be specified, travel “for business, tourism, family, study or even research” are prohibited until further notice, “only people who are French nationals, European nationals, diplomatic personnel and flight crews” can join France.

With a new health protocol on arrival: these travelers will all be tested on arrival, in addition to the mandatory test on departure.

If the test is negative, they will then be subject to a prefectoral decree of compulsory isolation, in the place of their choice, for 7 days; if the test is positive, they will be subject to a prefectoral decree of isolation in a designated hotel for 10 days.

And in both cases, the isolation will be “monitored by internal security forces”, with the risk of a fine of 1000 to 1500 euros for those who do not respect it.
